Sr. Sumara Khan

Bio for Sr. Sumara Khan

Sr. Sumara Khan is a popular lecturer and teacher on Islamic studies and Arabic. She formally pursued Islamic studies in Syria, spending a number of years at the Abu Nur Institute in Damascus, where she graduated at the top of her class with a Diploma in Arabic and Islamic studies. While in Damascus she earned the admiration of her teachers and peers and served as the translator for the late Grand Mufti of Syria Shaykh Ahmad Kuftaro in the sisters classes.

She holds Ijazahs (scholarly licenses) in Quran and Hadith, and is currently a graduate student in Usul al-Din at the American Open University.

Sr. Sumara teaches Tajweed and oversees the Sister’s Hifdh Program at the Quran Literacy Institute in Somerset. She is currently conducting an ongoing monthly series on the scholars of Islam, and has conducted in-depth tafsir of Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Ale-Imran, and Surah An-Nisa. She is a mother of three and lives in Piscataway, NJ.
